The clients wanted to make their weatherboard home, which they had outgrown, significantly bigger, and yet maintain a sense of its intimacy and “old world” character. “This home extension broadens the client’s brief to take into account a masterplan for the entire site, creating the ‘old world’ environment and retreat they dreamed of,” said Peter Jackson. “The high attention to period detailing combined with a carefully considered resolution of the existing building plan results not just in more space but a better quality of living.” The Judges unanimously agreed this project embraces the broader planning principles. The design is sensitive to the home’s original character by its careful attention to existing scale and detail. The project has exceeded the client’s expectations of greater living space. The home and its owners now feel a real part of this magnificent ‘private estate’.
