“A contemporary design was required to adhere to the strict covenant on the estate,” said Zol Nagy. “Requests for heavy articulation and skillion roofs that would be unique but complement the other homes in the estate had to be met. Three garages to the front were on the wish list; outlook to the adjacent lake and views to the Dandenongs were a must, as this was the justification in buying the property,” added Zol.

“The home is designed to wrap around the stairwell core, which is not only a point of egress, but an aesthetic feature and light shaft. The majority of the rooms take in the lake as a main aspect.”

“A large outdoor entertaining balcony can be accessed by multiple rooms bringing in the prize views, whilst retaining a sense of privacy.”

“A strong indoor/outdoor relationship has been achieved and, with the addition of a water feature wrapping itself around the meals area, a meditative experience can be felt throughout the entwining living areas,” said Zol.

“The Judges agreed that Nagy Design have created an interesting contemporary building that has developed around a central stair core, said Geoff Hoare, Chair of the Judging Panel. “The building has used the site to best effect, and the resultant design has created a building that is both pleasing in its aesthetics, and interesting in its form.”
