“Our clients gave us the brief to design a sustainable energy efficient retirement home on an idyllic site on a rural property of 150acres at Woodstock, 30 minutes north of the city,” said Andreas Sederof. “The site is surrounded by pastoral land with many large redgums and beautiful traditional stone fences surrounding the house site.” “The brief was to provide an open plan 2-3 bedroom home with a large workroom for the wife, who is a weaver. The workshop/laundry is open to the expansive open plan living spaces. The entry to the home is via a bridge over a reflection pond with water feature into an airlock which is floored with a subtle shade of green river pebbles. The entry is south facing and the raked roof is glazed with double glazed Low E glazing and features a subtle pull down external shading blind,” said Andreas. “This project demonstrates the successful application of effective planning, good orientation, excellent use of materials and colour, and has applied best practice design principles throughout the design concept,” said Geoff Hoare, Chair of the Judging Panel. “This design also features a very high thermal performance and incorporates many environmentally sustainable design philosophies.”
