This five storey complex accommodating 30 apartments, a commercial tenancy, and 37 on-site car parks, is a striking design achievement. It draws on the industrial heritage of the Collingwood area, but reinterprets it through the unusual use of its core materials of concrete, aluminium, steel and glass. The futuristic, external steel frame and mural artwork provide a sculptural element to the design. The apartments provide cool, stylish living spaces with large glazed doors, offering access to balconies with views over the Collingwood hinterland, while the commercial tenancy at ground floor level provides activity at street level. Car stackers have been used in the basement to maximise the site yield. This project contributes to contemporary design by challenging the idea of surface and façade through the clever use of positive and negative spaces, creating a development that invigorates and interacts with its surrounds, offering a vibrant place to live. This project has value added to the client’s investment and expectations.
