CPD Webinar, Engagement Agreement Overview, 31 May 2018

The next BDAV webinar, on 31 May 2018, is a MUST for subscribers to the BDAV Engagement Agreement. Earlier in the year, in consultation with the BDAV, Webber Insurance worked on an updated version of the BDAV Engagement Agreement. Webber Insurance worked with the BDAV insurance programs insurers and legal partners to ensure that the document that members now have access to includes the latest protections needed to operate as a building designer in Victoria. Chris Webber from Webber Insurance, together with Evelyn Morraitis, the BDAV's Membership and Partnership Officer, will present an overview of the key changes in the document as well as discussing why using this Engagement Agreement forms an important way to safeguard your business into the future. They will explain the protections the Agreement offers, and they will go through the structure of the document. There will be time set aside for questions.

BDAV CPD Seminar, 4 June 2018

The next BDAV CPD seminar will provide practical tips to implement Best Practice to avoid disputes with clients in terms of building defects. Disputes with clients often arise due to several factors, including design deficiencies, material deficiencies, specification problems, and workmanship deficiencies. The top ten building defects identified in Victoria last year included waterproofing, defects in brick and mortar walls, finishes defects and variations to building contracts. A major focus will be a segment on waterproofing, featuring three industry leaders. In addition, Chris Webber from Webber Insurance will discuss what the poor documentation/detailing may look like related to building designers; and preventative measures in terms of best practice in documentation to avoid claims. Chris will also discuss if the designer is also contract administering, what they need to do to implement best practice.
